932 History
Etna Lodge was instituted July 21, 1904 with 36 charter members. Incorporation came in 1906, with the simultaneous purchase of the former premises at 319 Butler Street.
Within 20 years we had burned the mortgage, and in September, 1929, with the spirit of progress and ambition, we acquired our next location at 118 Locust Street. The Lodge was remodeled in 1947 to include a grill and game rooms, and four additional bowling alleys for a total of eight lanes. Another renovation took place to the club rooms in 1958, which included air-conditioning on the main floor at a cost of $60,000. In 1960, at cost of $23,000, two stem boilers were added to accommodate heat for the entire building. Emergency lighting was installed in 1972, and a sprinkler system in 1977.
By a vote of the membership and approval of Grand Lodge, the Officers and Trustees received permission to sell the Locust Street Building in 2000. The sale was finalized in January of 2001.
A more suitable location was found at 2312 Main Street in neighboring Sharpsburg and was renovated to accommodate the Lodge in 2006. Our member’s now enjoy a state of the art facility with a brand new bar, kitchen, lodge room and game amenities.
